Tribute to Volunteer Project Pakrac 1993 – 1997 – Pioneering Peacebuilding Effort
& toward establishment of International Cultural Centre in Pakrac
We are happy to invite you to join us this summer at our 5th Camp – if you are between 18 and 35 yrs, fluent in English, interested in human rights, nonviolence, peace-building learning and meeting other cultures.
This year’s Camp explores societies’ attitudes on Youth. Although everyone claims that Youth/Children and Young people are most important, in reality is different. Youth is out of decision making, school system is underfunded, oppressive and doesn’t stimulate individuality, creativity and freedom of thinking. Playgrounds, swimming pools, youth clubs, organised activities are rather rare, neglected, expensive and not seen as priority. Youth is pushed away from politics, none is asking them about their needs, views, visions. What kind of future can we hope for if we are treating our youth as ‘not priority’? How to ensure that our care, upbringing of youth will prepare them for peace, nonviolent conflict transformation, respect of life and its diversity and not for war, destruction, hatred?
Along a main topic “Youth – Enigma for the Old” we want to mark 20th anniversary of Center for Peace Studies, Zagreb www.cms.hr which was born in Pakrac in summer 1996 before moving to Zagreb and official registering in 1997.
We offer opportunity to contribute building sustainable peace in town which was heavily destroyed by war 1991 – 1995 but was also place of pioneering peace-building efforts under UN umbrella including Volunteer Project Pakrac. 1993 – 1997 with over 400 international volunteers from over 30 countries.
Volunteers will participate in community work, some phyisical activities, visiting and assisting ethnic minorities’ associations in and around Pakrac.
There will be educational parts for volunteers about peace-building, role of youth, significance of youth, women and minorities in democratic societies and issues of needs and fears of ‘others’. Volunteers will have opportunity to speak about their experiences, prepare presentations and workshops.
Participation fee for volunteers is 125 EUR or 925 HRK – reduced amount by 50% from total price of 250 EUR or 1850,00 HRK and covers costs of 6 full board (3 meals a day, accomodation in double bed room in Hotel Pakrac http://hotel-pakrac.com/ or Mountain House Omanovac http://pdpsunj.hr/planinarski-dom-omanovac-2/
